Regional fishing report  08.24.08

Fishing continues to be productive for bass, catfish and panfish. Cool mornings and pleasant daytime temperatures are cooling the waters a bit and prompting fish to bite. Minnow and crayfish imitations are tempting bass in the lakes.
Rivers and streams are low, but fishable and live bait anglers have been doing well minnows for bass, corn for carp and chicken livers for catfish.
In New York, no reports yet of salmon milling around the Salmon River estuary near Pulaski, but on Lake Ontario, where strong winds have been blowing, the Chinook bite has been steady.

Along the Atlantic coast, the flounder bite is excellent, but anglers have only about a ten percent chance of catching a keeper.

Striper photo:

An impressive striped bass captured this fall (electrofishing) from the Schuylkill River just below Fairmount Dam in Philadelphia (adjacent to water works and art museum area). Fish was 42.9 inches long. If you know anglers who live in Phila. or at least "say" that they like to fish, all I can say is that they are missing a great opportunity if they are not fishing the Schuylkill in this specific area. It is particularly good in spring, although, obviously, there are some fish worth hooking into in the fall as well.
